There may be instances where you are suddenly unable to open or perform any action on files in File Explorer. You may receive an error message that the file at the destination path cannot be found, that there was an error with OneDrive, or there may not be any message at all.
In any case, there are a few initial steps to check to determine the cause of this issue, or possibly even resolve it.
Please refer to the instructions below for initial troubleshooting:
How to Check the Status of OneDrive and Reconnect to it:
- Check that OneDrive is available and fully synced
- OneDrive is online, account is signed in and fully synced
- OneDrive account is not signed in
- OneDrive is syncing
- OneDrive syncing is paused
- OneDrive encountered a sync error
- OneDrive account is full, locked or frozen
- OneDrive is online, account is signed in and fully synced
- If OneDrive is showing as disconnected, and you have Internet access (e.g. you can search on Google), then try signing out and back in again
- Click on the OneDrive blue cloud icon and select "Quit OneDrive" from the settings (gear icon)
- Search for and re-open the OneDrive app. This may ask you to sign in with your Microsoft credentials.
How to Manually Resync SharePoint Folders
- If OneDrive is showing as fully synced, but you do not see your SharePoint folder in File Explorer, then you may have to manually re-sync the files in SharePoint
- Open SharePoint on the web and navigate to the SharePoint site and then to the desired folder
- Click on the "Sync" button
Repeat Steps #2-3 for any folders that require resyncing
